SUMMER SESSION 2: The Grunch
Students in Grades 5-8
July 16th - 20th ... 9am - 3pm
ABOUT THIS SESSION:
During this one week musical theater intensive – actors will work together to produce a musical…about musicals…AND attend “Master Class” theater workshops! Throughout the week, campers will audition and rehearse for a contemporary musical - THE GRUNCH – which includes songs such as Only The Theatre For Me and Jazz Hands! Actors also will participate in small group, skill-specific workshops led by professional teaching artists. Workshops will include stage acting; vocal lessons; musical theater dance (for both dancers and non-dancers) and improv. All activities will take place on stage and outdoors. They’ll also be time for some good old-fashioned summer camp fun and chilling out at lunch with your friends!
The maximum number of students accepted for this session is sixty (60). Students are grouped according to their date of birth and will rotate throughout the day in these age-appropriate groups between experienced teaching artists for specialized instruction. Our staff consists of three (3) specialized instructors and eight (8) counselors.
Inspired by 'The Grinch Who Stole Christmas', The Grunch tells the story of Rudy Grunch, a grumpy 6th grader who always feels like an outsider. As the students at Whoover Academy prepare for the annual school musical, The Grunch comes up with a perfect plan to ruin it for everyone: he’ll steal the sets, costumes and lights the night before it opens. But will the spirit of theatre prevail?
