Who are we ? Triboro Musical Theatre's mission is to enrich the area by producing classic and contemporary musical theatre that is entertaining, creative and rewarding for our audiences, the community and artists. Triboro Musical Theatre, formed in 2003 from members of Triboro Youth Theatre, will produce high-quality shows that feature local talent as well as become a cultural institution that fosters a love of theatre in our community by keeping our productions affordable for everyone. Reviews The Sun Chronicle - Thursday, June 24, 2004 Triboro’s “Snoopy!” a showcase for young area talent by Kimberlane Alessandro, correspondent Attleboro - Young and old alike will enjoy Triboro Musical Theatre’s first production, “Snoopy! The Musical,” running through this weekend at Thacher Elementary School. Based upon the lives of the late cartoonist Charles Schulz’ characters, with music by Larry Grossman and lyrics by Hal Hackady, the show is a compilation of songs and short vignettes. With vibrant costumes, a true-to-the-comicstrip set, and an expert orchestra (David Renoni and T.J. Rizzo) “Snoopy!” is a treat for the eyes and ears. College-aged actors Sarah DeRosa, Steffi Johnson, Brian Loew, Amanda Nelson, Ted Nesi, Devin Romanul and Anna Seagrave bring the Peanuts characters to life, and do so beautifully. Under the expert eye of director Vivian Humphrey, this offshoot of her Triboro Youth Theatre seems headed in the right direction. As the cranky Lucy, Sarah DeRosa has all the right moves. Her body language and cadence in delivery are on the mark. Match that to a great singing voice and a fantastic stage presence and you’ve got a wonderful performance. Steffi Johnson as Sally Brown is sheer perfection. Johnson has Sally’s squeaky voice and kid-like movements down pat. My only complaint is that she has no solo songs as her voice is classic “belt-’em-out” Broadway. Hence, I look forward to Johnson’s next musical. As Sally’s love interest, the blanket toting philosopher Linus, Brian Loew is perfectly cast. His characterization is right on the money: facial expressions, body language, line delivery - all classic Linus. Amanda Nelson as Peppermint Patty is also wonderfully cast. Her characterization of the beloved tomboy is dead on with well timed punch lines (emphasis on “punch”), and true-to-character mannerisms. What you won’t expect is the sweetest alto-that-can-climb-slightly-higher voice that comes out of this young actor. Like her character’s name, Nelson’s voice is a refreshing sweet treat. Ted Nesi plays everyone’s favorite blockhead, Charlie Brown. Nesi’s got all Charlie Brown’s neuroses down and has a nice singing voice to boot. In his “Where Did that Little Dog Go?” his talent is showcased in one of the few solo numbers in the show. As the title character Snoopy, Devin Romanul does a great job portraying the over-confident beagle. Sentences are punctuated with a definitive cartoon dog sound and Fosse-inspired numbers make this actor’s characterization tons of fun to watch. As Snoopy’s sidekick Woodstock, Anna Seagrave brings her wordless character to life with only facial expression and body movement, and does so wonderfully. Seagrave’s job is not an easy one, yet she makes it look like it is. Kudos to her. Favorite numbers include “Hurry Up Face,” “Edgar Allan Poe,” “I Know Now,” “The Great Writer,” “Poor Sweet Baby,” and “Don’t be Anything Less than Everything You Can Be.” All in all, a very nice job by this young group of actors.
